This is how it goes.
So basically... My name is Max Wyman and I have decided to take a gap year before college, for many reasons, such as: not being absolutely thrilled with the college I was about to attend, and wanting to explore and experience life. Just that sentence alone makes me happy. I can't think of a better time, personally, to take a gap year because there is a lot I have to learn about myself, and about who I really want to be. Now... about what I am actually doing.
I will be volunteering on organic farms across the country. Wow, right? Yeah pretty out there I guess, but when you actually take a second to think about it, it kinda makes sense. I am always looking for a different route to take, or a way to separate myself because being cliche is not in my bag of tricks. I will be volunteering my hours during the day, farming, and I will be fed and housed by the host farm family that fosters me. My first farm is in Emmitsburg, Maryland and my second is in Vienna, Maine. So... join me on this blog while I try to find myself and also learn the ropes of farming ;).

Day 6/7
Its hard to write for two days ago, but you will just have to bare with me. I woke up at 8 comfortably and then I started to pack my things for the trip. I packed boxers, socks, shirts, and no shorts because I forgot it was going to be 80 degrees this weekend. I stuffed everything into my backpack, made my bed, brushed my teeth, and by that time it was 9. I went down and had some toast, the standard, and didn't really do anything until we left at 945. Harold took me, and we took the honda civic. That car is a legitimate piece of crap, but its one of two of the only cars they have. We drove about thirty minutes in constant conversation about Harold's upbringings and how he and Laura met, and all that good stuff. We finally got to the bus station, and we waited for about 5 minutes until the bus arrived. While we were waiting a lady was sitting down in a chair next to us waiting for the same bus, and it looked like this lady had a very serious disease. She was fidgety, and was all the while talking to herself. She walked by us and said something that neither of us could really make out, and I didn't know what to say, and Harold just kept staring straight ahead with a blank stare, and didn't say anything. And after she passed, we didn't discuss it at all. Strange. I got on the bus and sat next a guy named Caleb who goes to University of Maine and it was hard for me to understand his accent, but we managed to have a solid casual conversation about what we each do, and where we war going. He was a nice guy, but he wreaked of smoke after one of the pit stops we took. The bus ride seemed pretty short, because I just listened to music, and slept for a while. As I was arriving into Boston my friend Alex Stills whom I stayed with over the weekend texts masking me if I was close. I didn't see any sort of city, so I said no. Within in the next five minutes we drove over a bridge, and then Boston came into sight. It was beautiful. It was almost a little refreshing to be near so many people again. We got dropped off at the bus station, and I walked off the bus with headphones still in, to give myself a little soundtrack for my trip, and walked out onto Essex street. I waited for Alex and Leo, who is my other really good friend that goes to Boudin in Maine. As soon as I saw them, I was ecstatic. I ran up and hugged them both, and it was understood that the weekend was going to be awesome. As we were walking back, a fairly well dressed black man overheard that I had just arrived in Boston and asked Hey where are you from. I said LA. Ohh wow hey can I ask you a question, how are the gangs there? Im not in one but I heard its pretty crazy. Uhm well it depends I guess there are some shady parts but not everywhere. Ohhh wow ok, thanks man by the way could you help a brother out with some change. Collectively we said sorry. And then he said i like your glasses to me, and followed up by asking if I could have them as a joke. I said ha no sorry politely, and all he said back was well Welcome to Boston. What a strange first encounter. Anyways, we walked to Alex's dorm which was about 5 minutes away, and I dropped my backpack off there. It was an incredibly nice building, with a slight resemblance to a hotel lobby, but with a dining hall. Alex checked Leo and I into the Emerson building, and went to her room. It was a very spacious double dorm, and had a nice view of her good friends dorm room. After we dropped my backpack off we went to watch Alex's friend John play guitar at a coffee shop, but of course we got lost and walked in just as he was leaving the stage. classic. The coffee shop he was playing in was more of an indie, organic, vegan, joint that was incredibly hip, and totally awesome. The redolent ginger roots were too much to handle. We hung out with Alex's friends for awhile while we were served tea. It is very strange being introduced as a farmer, ha. I mean technically I am, but I haven't been my whole life, and I think people assume that. But it was cool it kind of gave me a different first impression than I have probably ever had on anyone. After hanging out there for awhile, we went to a bookstore to buy a ticket for another music show that night. At the bookstore I ended up finding myself in the agriculture section of the store. I read some books about planting, and soil, and even animal feed. It was pretty interesting because of what I am doing in my life currently, but not THAT interesting. After the bookstore, we went to the music show for a little, and heard some wanna be bright eyes, who by the end of his song was just spitting and preaching ridiculous thoughts on life, and barely signing. The next couple groups were all pretty mediocre, and Leo, Alex and I were just standing in a dimly lit room, placed next to her group of friends. After that we went to Wagamama, which is a noodle joint, that was not as great as I had hoped it would be. I got some glazed ribs, but the fat content was not welcome, and I ended up throwing half of each bone away. After that we indecisively walked around cambridge, and ended up getting dessert at a burger joint. I got a milkshake, and they shared a basket of fries. After that we were going to meet up with Alex's friends again in a Mediterranean style restaurant. We walked in and I did the fattest double take in the world, because I recognized a girl from PV sitting in the restaurant. Jessica Boff went to the rivalry high school of mine, but we went to the same middle school. We each freaked out and explained how it just so happened that two Palos Verdians were to run into each other on the other side of the continent, in a middle eastern style restaurant, at the exact moment we did. #smallworld. Also, just to fill everyone in that doesn't know what has tags are, I just introduced you. It is a way of summing up a group of events with a number sign and no spacing in the sentence. This weekend I became fluent in hashtags, so they will be apart of my blog from now on. Classic. So after we talked for a little we planned on partying a little bit at Tufts University that night, because that is where she was visiting a friend. Turns out that the friend she was visiting's roommate worked with me at my jewish summer camp this past year. Insanity. So after this we rushed back to Alex's to get dressed and then rushed to Tufts University and found my camp co counselor, and we had an awesome time. Her house was on campus and was amazingly nice. Tufts was a very pretty school, and the campus was gorgeous. After we left her house we went to a couple frat parties, that were classically not classic because of the regulation at the door. We ended up getting in everywhere, but being approved by frat brothers on their stoop is not as cool as it sounds. AFter that we took a cab back to Alex's and ended up getting to sleep around 3. The next day we woke up at around 12, and showered, and washed up and planned to go to the farmers market. It was quite a hike to the market, but totally worth it. It was 300 times bigger than the ones I was used to selling at in Georgetown. There were about 15 food trucks, and there was even a vintage store next to the market as well. Leo and I got Bon me sandwiches which were amazing, but not enough food. I had pickled carrots lettuce, a tench of some spicy sauce, and pork in my sandwich. We then walked around the vintage store for awhile, having fun looking at old pipes, paintings, clothing. We got an ice cream for the road back home, and walked to Alex's with rainbow sprinkles and a swirled soft served on a cone. It was 430, and you know what that means. #naptime. I slept for an hour while Alex did some work, and then we hung out in her room, and listened to Kanye West until her friends came over at around 630. We then introduced ourselves, and quickly grabbed dinner at the Dining hall and then got ready to go out. We first went to a miniature wine and cheese party, which was nice, but it was mainly a "pre game" to go out to a party after. Leo and Alex knew who's house it was because he went to Mira Costa. We took the train there, and walked some 10 minutes to his house, to find 14 guys and 3 girls squished into a room playing some drinking games. It was fun for awhile but we ended up going back to the cheese and wine party and having a way better time there. The night was overall extremely fun, and I was so happy that I got to spend it with two close friends. We went back to Alex's at 230 and went straight to bed. Nighty.
