This is how it goes.
So basically... My name is Max Wyman and I have decided to take a gap year before college, for many reasons, such as: not being absolutely thrilled with the college I was about to attend, and wanting to explore and experience life. Just that sentence alone makes me happy. I can't think of a better time, personally, to take a gap year because there is a lot I have to learn about myself, and about who I really want to be. Now... about what I am actually doing.
I will be volunteering on organic farms across the country. Wow, right? Yeah pretty out there I guess, but when you actually take a second to think about it, it kinda makes sense. I am always looking for a different route to take, or a way to separate myself because being cliche is not in my bag of tricks. I will be volunteering my hours during the day, farming, and I will be fed and housed by the host farm family that fosters me. My first farm is in Emmitsburg, Maryland and my second is in Vienna, Maine. So... join me on this blog while I try to find myself and also learn the ropes of farming ;).

Day 12
I woke up at 727 today and then went back to sleep until my alarm went off. I had to wait for the bathroom again, and then went down for breakfast. Zoelli was going to a cheese farm today to learn how to make cheese, and I had forgot completely. She had already eaten, and gotten dressed. I made myself some toast, again, and Harold told me the plans for today. A pretty laid back day, since it was raining and all. I was supposed to basically pick spinach for the day. You might think that this sounds like an hour job, maybe hour and a half, but you're wrong. Picking two full 96 ft row of spinach took me about 3 hours. I started the day with the chicken chores, and thankfully none of them were dead. I fed them collected the eggs, and then fed the turkeys. I have been thinking about the turkeys a lot lately. They keep the turkeys in a 3ft by 10ft box, that the 12 turkeys can barely walk around in. I have been researching about domestic turkeys, as to further my knowledge of why they would keep the bigger birds in a smaller space. After my information gathering, I still can't seem to find a reason why they do this, besides the fact that it is easy. I am going to try to propose a solution with Harold about letting them roam free in a fence type deal, and see what he has to say about it. So after the chicken chores, I washed the eggs, and then I went to the spinach greenhouse, and picked for a very long time. You see if the leaf is a glossy verdant, and if so then you pick right beneath the leaf, on the stem, and put her in the bucket. I have different positions while picking the leaves. I either stand over the row and use both hands, and go lightning speed, but this way hurts my back the most. Or, I sit on the ground and pick from my side, this way isn't the most effective because its hard to reach to the other side when sitting on one. I switch off from the two pretty frequently. I also started to do russian twists while I am sitting down, to get a workout, but also because it makes me back feel better. I listened to music, play some words with friends, and picked spinach for awhile. After I filled one bucket I went into the first greenhouse, where Zoelli and I were weeding yesterday. We never actually finished so I thought I would finish, and also picking spinach for that long gets boring. I began weeding, and thinking about my college essays, an thinking about when I get home, and thinking about if when I get home I would go to a fast food restaurant after what I have gone through the past couple months. Whether I would leave my humane side out of sight out of mind, or I would carry with me the feelings I have while I am here. Harold called me in for lunch, and to my surprise it was deli style. Boo yah. I love deli style because I can customize the sandwich to what I love, and I also use love sandwiches in general. As I sat down with my concoction i noticed Laura starting to eat, but I knew we hadn't done grace yet. But I thought hell if she's eating I don't see why I can't ( maybe they'll skip grace today ). So i took two huge bites, and then everyone reached out for grace...classic. #noob. Lunch was fine, but the setup was kind of weird since Zoelli wasn't here. It was Troy, Ross, and Josh on one side of the table, Harold and Laura at the heads, and me on the other side. It felt like a panel or something. I gotta say, as nice as Ross is to me when I ask him for help, he is a little shit. he complains about everything. Sometimes its so sarcastic, that you can't even tell if he is complying, and sometimes he is just straightforward. I have also noticed that Ross has the look of, when you are wearing glasses and you scrunch your nose up to your forehead, almost to raise your glasses, all of the time. Don't get me wrong I think there is clearly more to Ross than I know, and as I said before he has always been helpful to me, but classic Ross I guess. So I went upstairs relaxed did some SAT work, and then went back to weeding. After I finished weeding I picked a bunch of cherry tomatoes. It wasn't the most exciting, but it was a change from bending my back all day. They usually come in pairs, or families, and you have to pick the excruciatingly bright red ones. You pick them off in a certain way so that some of the stem stays on. After the tomato picking, I went back and picked another whole row of spinach. This took even longer, because this spinach hadn't been picked before so the amount of leaves was ten fold, what the other row was. I passed the time by dancing a little bit, singing a lot of bit, and thinking the most. I think it would be hilarious to keep a camera on me any random day. The amount of quirky things I do, and little dance moves is classic. It would be embarrassing for me to watch, but what do I care. After the spinach I hung outside in the rain, until I was drenched, and then went to do the afternoon chores. I fed the chickens, and the turkeys again. I told Zoelli that the day I leave I am going to set all the turkeys free, and if they lose all their sales for thanksgiving because of me then so be it. Turkeys will be turkeys. #lolbvijokingthough. I went inside and washed some more eggs, and then Zoelli came back from her cheese escapades. She said she had an awesome time, and even learned how to make Brie cheese. So not fair, that sounds like an awesome time. After I went upstairs Zoelli followed me in my room, and we talked for awhile, but she was hounding me to know the url of my blog. I couldn't exactly tell her, because it would be kind of awkward. We are friends on Facebook however, so bam. We sat and researched things on my bed and she chilled for awhile, a little too long though. Then it was time for dinner and a load of laundry. I was fresh out of boxers. We had lasagna for dinner, which was very enjoyable, and then...no dessert. How classic. After dinner I got my laundry showered, and went to call the ol rents. I went out in the rain and took a little walk while I was talking. The rain is awesome. I have loved it nice I can remember, and especially just a light drizzle, which it is now. It was good calling my Maj and Pop. They made me realize how soon I will be home. Goodness, twelve days. Anyways, its almost past my bedtime. nighty
