This is how it goes.

So basically... My name is Max Wyman and I have decided to take a gap year before college, for many reasons, such as: not being absolutely thrilled with the college I was about to attend, and wanting to explore and experience life. Just that sentence alone makes me happy. I can't think of a better time, personally, to take a gap year because there is a lot I have to learn about myself, and about who I really want to be. Now... about what I am actually doing.

I will be volunteering on organic farms across the country. Wow, right? Yeah pretty out there I guess, but when you actually take a second to think about it, it kinda makes sense. I am always looking for a different route to take, or a way to separate myself because being cliche is not in my bag of tricks. I will be volunteering my hours during the day, farming, and I will be fed and housed by the host farm family that fosters me. My first farm is in Emmitsburg, Maryland and my second is in Vienna, Maine. So... join me on this blog while I try to find myself and also learn the ropes of farming ;).

Day 14

I have been sleeping until my alarm on a consistent basis; must mean I am working hard or something.  I went to the bathroom, and then went down for breakfast.  I planned out my breakfast in my head so that I knew what I was making.  I was gonna make scrambled eggs, and put them on top a cheese filled piece of toast, and then tomatoes on top of all of that.  It sounds a lot better than it was.  Laura and Harold were both gone this morning because of church and another seminar.  So, what that meant to Zoelli was that we could take the morning super easy.  I guess so.  So we went out to start chicken chores around 845 which is pretty late.  We got that done, and I fed the Turkeys.  Zoelli went in to wash the eggs, and I watered the chickens, and then went directly to the unpicked chard.  I picked for a good two hours, while Zoelli and Josh picked some more spinach.  The chard isn't that hard to pluck, but sometimes you get a really difficult root, that doesn't want to budge.  It wasn't too hard on my arms, but my back really hurt by the end, and my fingers especially.  I think gripping the root really did number on my fingers.  After the chard, I went and picked some spinach with Zoelli before lunch.  We talked a good amount, and worked a less amount.  This time I think we talked about...probably more life.  Classic.  Then we went in for lunch, and we were having chicken soup.  I am a huge fan of bread with soup, because the bread absorbs the liquid so nicely.  It just works out.  Lunch was pretty silent, we didn't talk much at the table.  After lunch I came up to my room, and searched for a sweater that I would pay lots of money for.  There is a new trend called Cat Daddying that hit the media about a year ago, and in one of their follow up videos one of the guys is wearing a sweater that says "b!*tch I go to work" which is a line in their song.  I think it would be hilarious to wear this kind of sweater with a collared shirt and tie, or something or other.  #classicirony.  On top of that I was in the spirit for doing some Cat Daddying of my own out on the farm.  I was dancing a good majority of the day today.  After lunch I had big plan of cutting wood until dinner, so I got all my materials, and went out to the pile.  The thing I dislike most about cutting wood is the preparation I think.  I hate bringing everything out, marking the logs, etc.  I don't mind moving them or cutting just everything before and after those two things.  As I was going through my first round of cutting the muffler popped out again. This time I knew not to pick it up, but that was the day for cutting.  Which is lame, because I was in the  mood.  I put all the stuff away, and then went to go pick some more chard.  Zoelli always asks me why I stare off into space all the time.  Haha, I think its funny because half of the time its just at the scenery, and that I am taking a break.  I love taking it all in, because I'm here so I might as well.  Zoelli and I finished picking the chard together, and then because it was so early decided to start weeding one of the greenhouses.  Boy was that broccoli bed clustered with weeds.  It will take a whole day if not more to clean those rows.  We talked in spanish, and weeded for about 45 minutes, and but hat mite it was fair game to start doing the afternoon chores.  I went inside to get the egg basket and while I was there I asked Laura where I could get a new pair of headphones because mine broke.  Harold interrupted and told me that tomorrow he would be making some deliveries, and there was a Wall-Mart nearby.  Perfect!  Just what I have been waiting for.  Muahahaha.  I get to load up on candy, and desserts.  So hopefully that plan falls through.  After we finished the chores, I came upstairs and did some SAT prep, and then have been compute ring and calling friends/ rents/ reading.  So hopefully tomorrow works out.  Nighty.
